HAIR TUTORIAL: COOL GIRL TEXTURE WITH RICHARD KAVANAGH

There’s a reason everyone – from the Kar-Jenners through to your best gf – has a penchant for messy, textured hair.

Not only is it universally flattering, uber chic and perfect for just about any hair length… it’s also (relatively) simple to replicate.

That is of course, with the right tools.

Just ask Redken Global Artist slash Session Stylist extraordinaire Richard Kavanagh, who’s teed up with ultimate cool girl Bambi Northwood-Blyth to create this season’s hottest off-duty hair look using the brand’s coveted Dry Texture suite.

Harnessing the freshness (and second-day-styling prowess) of dry shampoo, this collection of style and finishing heroes is perfect for multi-tasking – comprising three epic staples that may be effortlessly layered for maximum impact. Scouts honour.

Their first work of wonder? The Dry Shampoo Powder 02; a non-aerosol dry shampoo powder that absorbs oil and provides light, clean volume. Perfect for adding that little bit of extra grit, this bad-boy also refreshes and extends styles thanks to its absorbant hero ingredient: charcoal.

Next up? The Dry Shampoo Paste 05, a hybrid, dry-texturising paste that offering re-workable hold with the freshness of dry shampoo. 50% styling product, this paste gives short hair and braids an extra boost, providing hold without looking stiff.

Rounding out the range is the Triple Dry 15; a buildable finishing spray that’s prime for layering. Perfect for creating effortless, beachy waves, this versatile kit-staple provides airy texture with just the right amount of lift, offering medium hold without a visible residue.

Ready to recreate? Scroll down for the (surprisingly simple) breakdown:

STEP ONE: This look can be achieved on clean or next day hair. For those looking for a little extra wave, roughly blow-dry on low-to-medium heat before lightly tonging random, outskirt sections.

STEP TWO: Begin with a coin-sized amount of Dry Shampoo 05. Using your fingertips, rub the product into the roots before raking through to create desired volume and texture.

STEP THREE: Those looking for a little extra grit – or added oil absorption – can apply a scattering of Dry Shampoo Powder 02. This can also be used in between wash days.

STEP FOUR: Finally, apply a generous spritz of Triple Dry 15 for hold, layering as needed. “It’s basically a hairspray that thinks its a dry shampoo,” says Richard. “And it smells good.” Et voila!
