HAIR TUTORIAL: MASTER THE PERFECT BLOW-DRY

True, trends may falter, but some styles will ever reign eternal. Take the humble blow-dry for instance; an undisputed hairdressing staple that’s observed countless iterations and enactments over the decades (Cindy Crawford’s Pepsi ad anyone?)… fluctuating in volume, design and purpose; all the while retaining it’s timeless, universal charm. With the iconic style back – no doubt, with a vengeance – we enlisted the help of blow-dry connoisseur, Taylah Jones of Que Colour, to show us how to create the ultimate, luxury blow-dry. Taylah, over to you.

PREP

My tip for a big, voluminous blow-dry? Start at the basin. I use Christophe Robin’s Cleansing Volumizing Paste with Pure Razzoul Clay. This clay to foam formulation turns white on the hair and emulsifies beautifully, deep cleansing and creating a natural fullness from the roots. The perfect base with which to begin.

SECTION

Sectioning is everything folks; this is the classic blow-dry set that is typically taught at TAFE and most educational institutions. Sometimes you just have to take it BACK TO BASICS! Everything we do with the hair, moving forward, is to work it into its final position. Start clean = end clean!

ROLL

Roll it up, stretch and over exaggerate every section of the hair upwards, making sure to never let the root drop. We want volume people!

COMPLETE THE SET

Here’s where you think of your grandma setting her perm in rollers… Once that hair is set, it’s not moving!

DIFFUSE TO DOUBLE SET

Using the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer and diffuser, double set the hair. First on a medium heat, and next with a cool shot over each section.

UNPIN

After setting, it’s time to (gently) unpin those curls, in prep for our next step…

VINEGAR SPRAY

Our top tip for the perfect finish? Spray your boar bristle brush with Christophe Robin Paris Hair Vinegar finishing lotions. These use natural fruit vinegars to draw out impurities that sit on the surface of the hair and BOOST their radiance without weighing the hair down. Again – we want volume.

BRUSH OUT

With your favourite bristle brush, work your hand underneath the hair to make it bounce! Take your time with this step – this is the most rewarding part of the whole process, and shouldn’t be rushed.

FINISH

Use angel delicate fingers to pinch and manipulate the hair till you have the perfect finish.

TAKE A SNAP... BECAUSE, WHY NOT?

And there you have it… the perfect, voluminous blow-dry. What better way to celebrate your efforts than a commemorative selfie or after shot.
