Championing excellence nationwide, AHFA20 is your chance to share what drives you; your creative artistry, and to be recognised among the best of the best in this incredible industry.
Each year our expectations are exceeded by YOU and we are forever thrilled to share such high calibre entries with our dynamic panel of judges.
Some of the most distinguished names in the global hairdressing industry – all of whom are ready to see what you are made of – our judges will view your work and cast their votes to determine the best from the rest.
With even more opportunities to take home a crown (not really, it’s more of a trophy), now is the time to let creativity lead, fire up those cylinders and get your entries ready.
As the old adage goes, you have to be in it to win it.

As always, there will be seven finalists announced for each photographic category. The only time this differs is with regards to Hair Shot of the Year and newly revamped Transformation Stylist of the Year, where TEN finalists will be announced.
On the subject of Transformation Stylist of the Year, we are upping-the-anti and opening the criteria. No longer only a hair extension specialist category, Transformation Stylist now includes transformation cuts, colours, extensions or a combination of any or all three (we’ll leave that up to you).
The Big One: Australian Hairdresser of the Year is breaking all the rules this year (we set them so we can). Awarding THE hairdresser with innovation and excellence in abundance, the winner of HOTY will be identified as a stand out amongst the Australian Hair Fashion Industry. This year we are shaking things up and have made entries for this category even more exclusive and illustrious.
Entry is now strictly limited to ANY ONE of the following four criteria:
- A previous winner of AHFA Australian Hairdresser of the Year
- Finalist of AHFA Australian Hairdresser of the Year in the last three years (2017/2018/2019)
- Must have won AHFA State Hairdresser of the Year at least TWICE
- By Special Invitation
