TJ: Key takeaway from the Shu Uemura Art of Hair Workshop with Creative Director Daren Borthwick?

CO: Learning how to haigo and mix products for  endless versatility. Working with Daren has been amazing – he’s so talented and it was such a privilege to gain insight into some of his hero tips and techniques.

TJ: Your hero Shu Uemura Art of Hair product?

CO: Now that my good friend Shu Uemura Art of Hair texture wave is back, this is my ultimate hero. Pair it up with some volume maker and BOOM.

TJ: Key takeaway from the Shu Uemura Art of Hair Workshop with Creative Director Daren Borthwick?

EG: Make your style perfect for the camera and then when you get ‘the shot,’ dishevel it and make it ‘ugly’ … because that’s when you could find the perfect image – when you’re not really working for it. This is also relevant to the salon when styling or even cutting … when I’ve made a style close to perfect, pushing it and personalising further could elevate the look.

TJ: What is currently inspiring you?

EG: Undone, effortless, textured hairstyles and cuts. There’s a lot of behind the scenes work to make a style ‘effortless’ – a natural, soft look that makes your client feel like themselves but with just a little more ‘something.’  That’s why I loved recreating Look 1  – the undone natural wave was right up my alley.

Shane Woods, Maurice Meade

TJ: What does it mean to you, to be part of  the Shu Uemura Art of Hair Shu Cru?

NY: It is such an honour to be a part of the Shu Cru! It’s such a rewarding experience to be around a highly talented and creative team like the 2018 Shu Cru; allowing me to push myself and use the mentoring time as a valuable creative outlet.

TJ: Your hero Shu Uemura Art of Hair product?

NY: Can I say all of them? I love weightless products and Shu Uemura Art of Hair is so light and refined which allows me to build the product how and where I want it. It is so great to have product with luxuriously simple packaging and without that expected ‘hair product’ smell. My all-time hero is  texture wave – so glad it’s back! Such nice light texture and volume.
