INTERVIEW: GLAMPALM AUSTRALIA AMBASSADOR, GEOFFREY HERBERG

“As an educator I strive to share my expertise, knowledge and skills with a variety of hairdressers and I believe that if you want to achieve outstanding results you need to align yourself with brands who’s values resonate with you. ‘A tradesman is only as good as the tools they use’, so why shouldn’t we all be using the best?”

Geoffrey Herberg, GlamPalm Australia Ambassador

Award winning session stylist, colourist, salon owner, educator and brand ambassador (…shall we continue?) Geoffrey Herberg has no doubt safeguarded his place as one of the industry’s most respected figures, having forged a formidable creative career over the course of an admirable 30 years.

Here, Geoffrey shares the advice that’s informed his journey to date, his most memorable moments with GlamPalm and what he looks for when choosing brands to align with.

TJ: Talk us through your role as one of GlamPalm’s Australian Ambassadors. What does it entail?

GH: My role is extremely wide reaching and would best be described in today’s context as that of an ‘influencer’. While the role includes raising brand awareness and increasing sales, I see myself as someone who’s passionate about the hair industry and determined to make it better – using the very best tools and products to create amazing hair. My role also encompasses education; creating and sharing a variety of techniques using GlamPalm and creating brand awareness through marketing and promotional materials. I’m very proud to be working alongside a brand that I believe in.

TJ: What is it about working with GlamPalm that excites you most?

GH: It’s great to be part of the GlamPalm family! Since becoming a GlamPalm ambassador, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the brand’s growth in Australia, the product line extensions and the growing demand for education. This year there have been some awesome education events, not only with myself but also my fellow ambassadors Kobi Bokshish, Brad Ngata, Stevie English, Lorna Evans, Adam Ciaccia and Sandy Turner; all of whom love using the tools as much as I do! As an educator I strive to share my expertise, knowledge and skills with a variety of hairdressers and I believe that if you want to achieve outstanding results you need to align yourself with brands who’s values resonate with you. ‘A tradesman is only as good as the tools they use’, so why shouldn’t we all be using the best?

TJ: From a product perspective, what makes GlamPalm superior to its market competitors?

GH: GlamPalm are true leaders in the industry. They’re a brand that continues to research, develop and create innovative tools and products – all of which are constantly evolved and updated through new developments and discoveries. I’m so excited about the new GlamPalm AirTouch hair dryer; the most powerful hair dryer on the Australian market. There are so many unique and amazing products by GlamPalm [but] one of my absolute favourites is the GlamPalm Clinic. With its healing stone technology (that prevents damage while making hair softer and glossier) and its special ceramic heat plates for smooth styling, it truly stands out from the rest. I choose GlamPalm for a multitude of reasons, the most standout being the end result… the smile on my clients’ and students’ faces when they love how their style has been created. My advice? Get the tools and products in your hands; I know you won’t be disappointed.

TJ: What have been some of your most memorable moments with GlamPalm over the course of your brand alignment?

GH: It certainly has been an amazing journey since I aligned with GlamPalm just over four years ago. I’ve been lucky enough to have been involved in product testing and new launches (in particular the GlamPalm Clinic) and was invited to create educational technique and operational videos on behalf of the brand in 2018. One of my recent highlights was seeing the imagery I had created used to promote the brand in catalogues and media campaigns for 2019. Educational events are always a highlight. Continuing the success of our recent Hair Expo mainstage show, we just wrapped up the Brisbane Hair and Beauty Expo where I shared a variety of styling tips, tricks (and textures) using my GlamPalm straightening irons.

TJ: Any words of advice that have informed your career journey to date?

GH: Throughout your life, you will always receive career advice – some good and some bad. What you do with that advice is up to you, but in some instances it can prove invaluable. I’ve received so many pieces of advice over the years that have helped me achieve success; here are a few of them. 1. Don’t be paralysed by fear. 2. Have a path, but be flexible, 3. Don’t let others manage your career. 4. Earn their trust. 5. Learn something new every day. 6. Treat everyone how you want to be treated. 7. Don’t be the smartest one in the room. 8. Never complain when there’s a lot of work. 9. Believe in yourself!
