CAMP: NOTES ON THE 2019 MET GALA

It’s the first Monday in May (NY time at least…) which can only mean one thing: Met Gala Madness. A celebration of exhibit theme ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, this year’s pink carpet did not disappoint, with guests sporting an array of bold and beguiling ensembles befitting the evening’s premise. Check out our favourite #camp moments from multi-hued spectacle that was.

Lady Gaga

In a moment that stole the show, Mother Monster transcended the pink carpet, wowing in not one but four styles from Brandon Maxwell. Hair artist Frederic Aspiras once again made his trademark magic creating a crown of platinum blonde bows from Gaga’s own locks. A subtle nod to her poker face days.

Gigi Hadid

Supermodel Gigi Hadid channelled her inner ice queen, in a white catsuit with gold and silver streaks paired with matching coat and feather adorned headpiece by designer Michael Kors.

Lilly Collins

Paying homage to old Hollywood glamour, Collins stunned in a white, ruffled gown by Giambattista Valli… her dark locks sculpted high into a teased bouffant, fastened with a white headband and a spray of delicate florals. A modernized nod to Priscilla Presley’s iconic sky-high mane.

Kendall Jenner

Turning heads as always, Jenner made her anticipated entrance in this striking orange masterpiece by Versace. With her hair slicked back in a flapperesque style – a look created by hair mogul Jen Atkin – Kendall cut a striking pose on the pink carpet.

Lupita Nyong'o

Rocking gold afro picks in her structure-defying beehive, Nyong’o did not disappoint in this neon rainbow display from Versace. The stuff of multi-coloured dreams.

Lucy Boynton

Ethereal in a pink and grey Prada gown – featuring a feathered bottom and sequined body under sheer tulle – Boynton completed her look with a stunning headpiece from Leletny and hair custom dyed grey-blue for the occasion.

Ciara

Giving us full Diana Ross disco vibes in Dundas, Ciara well and truly let her hair down for this emerald dream, clipping her fringe back with studded barrettes that are oh. so. in.

Cara Delevingne

Delevigne wowed in this rainbow fever dream from Dior Haute Couture. The model turned actress donned a sheer striped ensemble, pairing it with matching cane and headpiece from Machine Dazzle… featuring eyeballs, dentures, banana peels and even a fried egg.

Bella Hadid

Stepping out sans bf The Weeknd,  Bella Hadid dressed to impress (and show him what he was missing?) in a lavish black gown with bejewelled cutouts. The supermodel is no stranger to a hair makeover, giving us yet another to look to covet with this raven pixie-crop wig.

Emily Ratajkowski

In full Emrata form, the model/actress channelled the ultimate camp icon, Cher… leaving very little to the imagination (not that anyone is complaining). This bold interpretation of a Bob Mackie dress by designer Dundas was made complete with a winged headpiece, secured with diamond strands that glistened from ear to ear.
