AAFW 22: KARLA ŠPETIĆ X ARTÈGO

Artègo returned to the runway this AAFW, bringing fresh talent to the event with Matthew Ashton for female designer Karla Špetić.

“I crave a love so deep, the ocean would be jealous …”

It is this quote from Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, that captured the spirit of Karla Špetić’s AAFW resort 23 collection, Oasis, and a yearning that instigated a romantic, saturated hair directive from Matthew Ashton for Artègo.

“The Collection narrative is driven by the desire to escape to an oasis, experiencing tropical bliss in a faraway place,” says Karla. “I want to evoke that feeling you have after a day at a beautiful beach, with aqua water and white sand, you’re dressed for the evening, relaxed and glowing.”

Georgette dresses with a body-hugging fluid flow mimicked anemones, coral and seaweed, while soft tailoring with organic shapes are cut-outs maintained the Špetić signature.

Matthew Ashton, current FAME Team member and freelance stylist for Artègo pushed his team to create the ultimate modern mermaid vibe; artfully balancing softness and structure as seen through the designs, and truly manifesting the visual of models’ who had emerged from the sea.

“The hair follows a natural aesthetic – fluid with long and short lengths that fall over the face and give the illusion of having just stepped from the water,” he said.

Hair of varying lengths was pushed back with pieces selected at random to crawl, sinuously down the face. Hair was drenched with Artègo’s Glaze and Shaping range and had a piecey finish through the crown and ends.

“It’s quite fluid, with long and short lengths, and an aquatic, sporty vibe. It’s resort, it’s fresh. It’s modern.”
