One of the industry’s rising stars, we caught up with the talented Salon Director & Master Colourist of Royals Hornsby, following his Issue 5 Cover Shoot with Mal Masci for Revlon Professional.
What first inspired your love for hairdressing?
TB: I think my love for hairdressing stemmed from physically being in a salon environment; I’d beg to come along to my mum’s weekly blow-dry appointments, and I’d sit and warch in awe. I attempted amateur hairdressing from an extremely young age, and was notorious for cutting and colouring my friends’ hair – with little to no experience, and plenty of errors! I knew from this point that hairdressing was something I wanted to do. So, I left school as soon as I could and started an apprenticeship – I guess the rest is history.
Talk us through your most recent shoot with Revlon.
TB: This has to be my favourite shoot with Revlon to date. We had the opportunity to showcase Revlon’s new Blonderful range on our beautiful models – with a full day of colour prep prior to the shoot; we were able to turn our models’ blonde hair from drab to fab. The shoot was our direct interpretation of the current 2017/18 Revlon Professional ‘Design Collection’, which heavily features classic, timeless styling alongside premium colour work.
Whose blonde locks are you loving at present? Any trends that have caught your eye?
TB: I can’t go past Gwen Stefani; she’s ultimate #blondegoals. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her hair with even a centimeter of regrowth, and her blonde always looks absolutely incredible. I’m also a fan of scalp bleach; there’s nothing better than a crisp clean blonde, and I love the way it settles after a week or two.
