TRENDS: THE NEW SEASON COLOUR CODE

Summer is officially headed to its next destination, and as we circulate the wardrobe and reach for the red, salons rejoice in an all-new line-up of colour possibility … that new season shift notoriously bringing fresh demands on depth, dimension and era-inspired trends.

So, we sat with PALOMA Salon’s Senior Colour Specialist, Lydia Oxley to chat the 4 new looks you need to know.

DIAL IT TO WARM

“A lot of our clients are (already) asking for more warmth with a considerable increase in copper and rich auburns. Of course, these fiery shades aren’t for everyone. While there are exceptions in everything, these tones typically work best on cooler/neutral skin tones and love a blue eye for something to pop.”

Turns out even the die-hard blonde is welcoming a warm wave, “I’ve been transitioning a lot of our more traditional blonde clients to a stunning strawberry … just the right amount of warmth to keep it in that ‘blonde’ range yet feel a significant change for the season ahead.”

(STILL) BIG ON BALAYAGE

“An ever-popular request, balayage remains a popular request with preference for really dark roots and that super clean pop on the ends … the transition is back to a more harsh contrast as opposed to subtle and seamless – a little less ‘ready to wear’ more fashion focused.”

MO MONEY

“The 90s is still alive and well this season with the comeback of those Salt n Pepa-centric money pieces.”

“A lot of our younger demographic are experimenting with super bright, high contrast hairlines with a lean towards rich fiery coppers paired with golden/strawberry blonde pieces.”

“Pastels, it seems, have had their moment … for now.”

BRUNETTE ELEVATION

“The brunette brigade seem to be (so far) playing it safe with minimal change or just a subtle shift in dimension (updating their existing base by just one or two shades). It’s still about that ‘sunkissed’ effect for this colour category  … so no over colouring, just a nice dose of dimension as the cool sets in.”
