The Day of Reckoning: Inside the 2017 AHFA Judging in London

It’s London. It’s Monday 30th January. It’s 10am. The most famous faces in the world of hairdressing are gathered in one room… this can only mean one thing: it’s time to judge #ahfa17!

The Australian Hair Fashion Awards (AHFA’s) are Australia’s largest and most successful independent hairdressing awards program. Proudly partnered by global hair fashion leaders L’Oréal Professionnel, in 2017 the AHFAs celebrate their Silver Jubilee: 25 years of honouring the dynamic collaboration between the hair, fashion and beauty industries but also putting Australian Hair Fashion at the centre of a global arena.

In order to gain international exposure for our hugely talented Australian Artists, all photographic categories are judged in London by the crème de la crème of British Hairdressing. Each year new judges are added to the portfolio of experts who continue to respect and acknowledge the Australian Hair Fashion Industry.

This year our judging panel was bigger and better than ever before with a whole host of A-list industry names. Four times British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara, catwalk legend Eugene Souleiman, Nicola Clarke – colourist to Madonna and Kate Moss and the inimitable session supremo Sam McKnight all came along to examine every inch of the incredible creativity of Australian hairdressing.

In addition, Amanda Nottage, editor of Brit hair bible Creative Head and Matthew Batham, deputy editor of Hairdressers Journal International added their thoughts to the judging process while BAFTA Award winning short film/ad director Philip Dupée judged Hair Fashion Video of the Year. Lisa Oxenham, Style & Beauty Director of British Marie Claire and make-up legend and regular show-partner to Sam McKnight, Mary Greenwell shared their thoughts on Make-Up Artist of the Year.

Creative Director of the AHFA’s and M Division David Mannah is at the helm of his fourth event and the third in collaboration with L’Oreal Professionnel. “The AHFA’s are the ultimate platform on which to honour the immense creativity and hard work of the Australian Hair Fashion Industry. We are so thrilled this year to be able to present this work to a group of judges who are without doubt the biggest hairdressing names in the world”
