It’s not everyday you ask somebody for a job through Facebook, but thats exactly what brave Hermiz Daniel did – and boy did it pay off. Calling Joey Scandizzo’s Salon home was a big tick off the dream list for Daniel, so we thought we would find out a little more about the Wella hairdresser – including what boxes he would like to tick next.
TJ: If you had a time machine would you go back in time or visit the future?
HD: I would visit both! I would go back in time and revisit all the amazing highlights in my life and take heaps of photos so I can come back to present time and put them on my Instagram! And I would love to visit the future just to see if I’m going on the correct path. I like being prepared!
TJ: If you could only hear one song for the rest of your life what would it be?
HD: Please give me options here – one song isn’t enough! But if you insist I guess it would have to be “Don’t stop believing” by Journey.
TJ: Can you tell us about how you first got into hairdressing?
HD: Like I mentioned before, hairdressing was never my first option, fashion design was. But I always had the love for hair and creating up dos. I think that’s how I first got into hairdressing. I would play around with my sister’s or my mum’s hair creating braids or little up dos.
TJ: What is your favourite thing about the hair industry?
HD: Travelling! I get to travel quite a lot with this industry. Meet new people, see new countries, work with amazing models and celebs and not to mention create some editorial looks.
TJ: Tell us about one of your career highlights.
HD: I guess the one that stands out all the time is getting a job at Joey Scandizzo salon. It was so hard for me to get a position there. I applied so many times and sent letters including my resume, and more resumes and then ended up messaging Joey on Facebook (how unprofessional) asking him for a job! He replied saying “sorry mate I’m fully staffed at the moment”, my heart was shattered and I felt as if my world of hairdressing was ended. Then he replied back the next day saying come in for a chat, and the rest is history! I always had a feeling that I belonged at Joey Scandizzo, and it’s been one of my best decisions in my whole life!
TJ: What is your favourite style to create?
HD: My style changes all the time, I went through a period were I was addicted to creating wavy hairstyles. Now I’m into sleeker looks. My hairdos are a lot more structured now. Haircuts are simpler now. I’m always changing – I get bored! So there isn’t a particular style that I consider my favourite to create.
TJ: Name your favourite WELLA product and why.
HD: My favourite Wella product at the moment is Create Character, because it’s not too heavy and not too light. It sits in between. Sometimes I’m a happy medium person!
TJ: Why do you choose to identify with WELLA professionals?
HD:I love Wella because they believe in me and believe in my craft
TJ: What is the most popular WELLA product and why?
HD: Most popular Wella product would be the LuxeOil – I love it because it feels like you’re putting water in the hair. Very light yet effective!
