MBFWA SPOTLIGHT: REDKEN FOR TEN PIECES

We’re creating two looks today, but the one, main look, is all about emphasizing that 1980s rude club girl and boy. We’re coming out of the punk era and working to emulate short hair cuts with tenderly pieces at the front and back – an evolution from the Chelsea cut.

Maurice Terzini is becoming as much known for contemporary-cool hospo haunts as he is restructured streetwear. The man behind the likes of Bondi’s infamous Icebergs and more recently pub-go-to Bondi Beach Public Bar (BBPB), a penchant for causal luxe with a hit of the underground was well seen and heard at yesterday’s Ten Pieces collection preview. The location? Icebergs – of course.

The young brand busts open the door on the rude club for Resort 18, a shot of laid back luxe served with ska and punk influence, and a refreshing departure from Terzini’s earlier structure and makings in monochrome. Acid yellow and emerald green punctuate an interchangeable collection of merino wool suiting, silk dresses and oversized signatures for the season ahead.

Redken were all hands on deck with one of our all time favourites, John Pulitano at the lead.

“We’re creating two looks today, but the one, main look, is all about emphasizing that 1980s rude club girl and boy. We’re coming out of the punk era and working to emulate short hair cuts with tenderly pieces at the front and back – an evolution from the Chelsea cut,” explained John.

For this look, John and his extended Redken team first prepped the hair with Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray for that shiny, piece-y texture before applying Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray, “strategically slicking the hair down at the back and then folding for a bluntness and to accentuate (these) tendrils.”

The second look delved into the heart of Eighties Madonna, a curly, Mohawk vibe that served a soft, bouncy juxtaposition for the runway.

“For this look we prepped with Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray and dried it into the hair before using a really small pencil tong to create this super tight curl and then brushing it all through,” said John.

“We also used a lot of Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender and Oil Absorbing Dry Shampoo, and then started to pull it all up, just using our hands so it’s a little more organic – a little more textured. Finally, we finished the look with Fashion Work 12 Hairspray.”

It’s a style that started in the rude club – that backcombed, frizzy texture that we’re predicting is going to make a mean comeback. Sexy, feminine and super stylish, it’s great for any hair type and perfect for the salon floor.
