Sydney hairdresser Emiliano Vitale, in association with é SALON, the Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) and AHC Youthworx, hosted a star-studded industry event at The Australasian College in Sydney on Monday 16th September, with Nikki being crowned the winner of the experience of a lifetime – working backstage at the Alternative Hair Show in London on Sunday 13th October 2013 – the global hairdressing event of the year!

“Wow! To win this opportunity is actually a dream come true, like Emiliano kept saying all weekend – anything is possible. I’m so freaking excited!” Says Nikki. “To go to the Alternative Hair Show with the é SALON team will be a life-changing experience and an opportunity to make my mark on the industry as an up and coming stylist. It will also be a fantastic experience to share with my team!”

Over the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September, Nikki, and three other finalists from QLD, NSW & SA, were flown to Sydney and mentored by industry luminaries & gurus Emiliano Vitale, Sandy Chong, Leesa Smith and Matt Clements and a selection of Youthworx stars, including Lisa Muscat, Maria Unali, Jordan Hone, Theo Sotiriou and Samuel Overton.

“As far as I thought, I’d won already by being involved and being in Sydney for the biggest weekend of my career so far,” says Nikki. “It’s been career-changing to a degree, to be surrounded by such influential, inspirational people for a solid two days. You couldn’t put a monetary figure on a seminar like this in the real world and I am truly fortunate to have had this experience.”

The creation of hairdressing industry guru, Emiliano Vitale, in association with é SALON, the Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) and AHC Youthworx, Global.Synergy called for young hairdressers with 1-6 years experience, who dream big, are motivated and believe they can contribute to the global hairdressing industry – and were salon or individual members of the AHC – to enter.

The entry was a 2-minute video, outlining why the entrant wanted to win, a brief bio, portfolio & collection imagery, reasons why the entrant believed they should be chosen and how they would share the experience with their peers.

Nikki flies to London with the é SALON team on October 9th, returning home to Melbourne on October 14th to share her experience with her team!

According to Sandy Chong, CEO & AHC Chair, “the Australian Hairdressing Council was so proud to support the Global.Synergy initiative with Emiliano Vitale, giving Nikki the chance to work with him at the Alternative Hair Show in London which is truly a once in a lifetime experience.”

“Nikki will also experience and see the absolute best of hairdressing on the world stage at Salon International in October – what an amazing prize, generously supplied by Emiliano himself, in support of Youthworx and the AHC.”

“The Alternative Hair Show in London WOW! Youthworx is the AHC’s community of young, passionate hairdressers and is very proud to be supported by Emiliano Vitale of é SALON. The incentive to give younger members the opportunity to work on one of the biggest events on the international hairdressing calendar is incredible!” Says Youthworx mentor Leesa Smith.

“It was so fantastic to see the sheer passion and obvious love for what they do in all the finalists’ video entries,” says Emiliano Vitale. “To have the ability to dream and the courage to put that on show and share it with us was so inspiring and a reminder that our next generation of hairdresser knows there’s so many more opportunities out there other than just working in the salon!”
