INSPO: ENTER THE ‘RACHELLE’ BY SALON X’S TRAVIS BALCKE

Before and After

They say change is as good as a holiday.

And for those sans a disposable income or last name starting with Kardashian (which let’s face it, is basically all of us) a seasonal cut or colour change can be just as refreshing as a sneaky getaway; a 2020 salve for all that pent up wanderlust that’s equally insta-friendly.

Making a case for the mid-September refresh? It-influencer slash entrepreneur (slash global style icon) Elle Ferguson, who this week debuted a new and striking hair look to her 682,000 strong band of Instagram followers – courtesy of Salon X’s Travis Balcke.

The inspo? A modern twist on the nineties, ‘Rachel’ haircut – popularised by hit sitcom Friends and namesake hair icon, Rachel Green. (PSA: For our Gen-X readers, this chic shag was all the rage from 1994 onwards and has seen countless iterations and revivals.)

“This look is my take on 90s, face framing layers – a modern interpretation of the classic Rachel haircut,” shares Travis. “We’ve called it the RachELLE.”

A notable departure from Elle’s famed, beachy waves, the bold brunette look (that, just like the former look, is sure to be emulated) is at once classic and ultra-modern; the perfect cut and colour combo for clients looking to make a move to the dark-side.

“Hair was cut using Mizutani scissors and combs from Y.S Park,” continues Travis. “To create that effortless, nineties feel, front layers were blow-dried using the ghd Helios Hairdryer and a large round brush.”

For that polished 90s finish (think high shine yet full bodied) Travis next glided over strands with the ghd Platinum+ styler before spritzing with a mist of hairspray. Et Voila!

How’s that for a mid-lockdown refresh?
