ICON: 9 LEGENDS OF THE MULLET

While having a mullet today may be undeniably Australian, like most trends, ideas and innovations of the 70s and 80s (in particular), there’s a good chance it all stemmed from American influence. The trend most likely piggybacking the face and touring fame of homegrown legends such as Johnny Farnham, personifying that inherent Aussie twang along the way. It seems our AFL stars of the time also took a particular liking to the ‘party at the back’ lifestyle – more serious mullets afield than talent, some might say. In any case, while it may have originated offshore, we wore it best.

Here’s a few of our favourites over the years.

JOHHNY FARNHAM

The pressure is down on this long luscious style.

JOE EXOTIC VERSUS ELLEN DEGENERES

The most unlikely comparison split of 2021?

WARWICK CAPPER

We’ve all made foul use of his last name … does Warwick win AFL’s most well groomed mullet of all time?

MICHAEL BOLTON

How can we be lovers when you have this hideous haircut? Too much, Bolton.

CHER

NEVER GETS IT WRONG.

BATMAN FAN

Does anyone know this guy? To the bat mobile.

JANE FONDA

Most chic mullet award.

ROB LOWE

The bad boy mullet … tick.

BILLY RAY CYRUS

The most iconic of the 80s, no doubt.
