The hair look for tonight is all about deep conditioned, beautiful, healthy hair; we’ve reflected this by creating lustre and shine.

Iconic department chain David Jones more than brought the heat for their Spring/Summer 2018 Collections Launch.

Titled ‘House of Spring’, this season’s offering channeled new beginning and inspirations; capturing the essence of a new season ‘awakened as the first hint of spring rejuvenates its surroundings’.

For one enchanted evening, Moore Park’s Fox Studios was transformed into a whimsical, indoor greenhouse, dressed with lush green, shrubbery and assortment of crisp floral arrangements.

Close to 350 guests – including a host of influencers, celebrities and media personnel – gathered for the semi-annual soiree, which saw event-goers indulge in a sumptuous springtime supper before which the anticipated runway show brought this season’s statement-makers to majestic life.

“Australians love warm weather and we’re delighted to celebrate the arrival of spring with the release of our SS18 campaign and Collections Launch event,” said David Jones General Manager, Womenswear and Accessories, Bridget Veals.

“As summer approaches, you can feel the festivity in the air. Australians are looking for outfits that can take them from the office to the beach, a bar or a backyard barbecue.

The warmer weather requires us to shop with versatility in mind and the David Jones SS18 collection was curated with the Australian lifestyle at heart”.

Headlined by Victoria’s Secret angel Karolína Kurková, Adut Akech, Anwar Hadid as well as David Jones Ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Victoria Lee, a refreshingly diverse cast of male and female models debuted the chain’s latest roster of seasonal garments.

On the roster for Spring/Summer 2018, were Aussie design staples Zimmermann, Camilla and Marc, Christopher Esber, KitX and Bianca Spender alongside new season accessories from Sarah & Sebastian, Celine, Ellery, Bally, and RM Williams to name a selection.

Leading the evening’s hair direction was Aveda Creative Director for David Jones, Terri Robertson-Kirkwood who guided Aveda’s National Style Team in creating a sleek and lustrous hair look to suit the upcoming season.

“This season’s show is all about fresh opportunities and new beginnings” said Terri; “With so many statement garments, we wanted the hair to be very simplistic”.

The brief? “Gelled back hair with a contemporary twist. The look is all about deep conditioned, beautiful hair; healthy, lustrous hair that is still fashion forward”.

The look was comprised of a slicked back, front panel with front strands tucked behind the ears. “We’ve created a focal point using the top twist, which gives it more of a contemporary feel,” continued Terri.

“Consumers are looking for healthy, natural hair which is reflective of the Aveda aesthetic. All models have a pop of colour on the lips which beautifully complements the lush hair”.

To re-create the look, work a small amount of Aveda’s Daily Hair Repair through mid-lengths and ends for increased protection and repair. Spritz damp hair with Thickening Tonic (for fine hair) or Volumising Tonic to create body and add shine.

Next, distribute 2-3 pumps of Phomollient Styling Foam through locks to create weightless body before blowdrying hair with a paddle brush.

To achieve the slicked back middle panel, take a 5cm section from the front hairline to the crown (leaving loose a 1cm section at the hairline), and spray with Control Force Hairspray until hair is damp.

Next, brush through hai spray and lay sectioned hair flat on top of head before securing with a section clip. Take remaining hairline strands and spray with Control Force Hairspray before twisting into shape and clipping.

Tuck remaining hair behind ears and brush to smooth hair down at the back. Use Split End Repair for extra polish and to bind any split ends for a healthy finish. Once dry, gently remove clip and spritz twist with stronghold hairspray.

Terri’s tip for upping the glam factor? Add a touch of bling; “It’s a look you can play around with. Add hair adornments, coloured clips or a little bit of bling to add an extra dimension.

We are seeing a trend for hair that is simplistic, as well as a desire for visually healthy and shiny hair. Aveda’s styling products help sustain this health and shine on the runway, regardless of hair type or texture”.
