Here, she shares her top 5 relatable social tips for nailing your salon social media game.

1. WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

“One of the most common things I heard from salon owners this year is they feel hesitant or scared to being because they don’t have the resources to run their social media. I honestly believe that if you have a phone, you can do it. That is all you need to kick start even the smallest amount of growth for your social platforms and your business.

“You don’t need a ring light (trust me, we have never used one) you don’t need to hire anyone extra (yet..) So work within your means with what you have to get you off the ground. What do I mean by this?

“Don’t have the time or can’t remember to film a before and after shot? Grab your apprentice or assistant to film for you! Chances are, they know their way around a phone better than anyone else. As an added bonus, filming and listening to you while you explain a consultation or brush out a blow dry is going to be valuable for them to see up close and a great way to learn on the job.

“The only app you need is SPLICE, and it costs nothing for a yearly subscription and makes the editing of your content easy and just gives it a little something extra.”

2. STICK TO WHAT YOU LOVE MUSICALLY

“Stay away from trending music sounds if it doesn’t suit your brand. I don’t care if something is the most popular song at the moment with 20 million hits. If it doesn’t feel right for your brand don’t use it. Choose music for your videos that you either actually love or listen to in your salon and it will build community trust and feel to your videos that will lead to higher engagement in the long term and attract the client you want to sit in your chair at the end of the day.”

3. THE SINGLE POST IS OVER (RIP)

“2023 is the time of REELS and Multi-photo posts. You need to think about content that will make someone stop in their tracks. The average view on any post is around 0.5 seconds. seriously.

“Choose to make a reel, or make a multi photo post will get someone engaging with your post for at least 1-2 seconds. This increases their chance of liking, commenting, and loving your content and what you have to say.”

4. TAP INTO GLOBAL TRENDS

“Identifying key beauty trends that already have momentum and translate to hair is a sure sign of social success. Be mindful that these trends also work for your salon team, what your team are capable of as you never know when the phones going to start ringing with people demanding that service!”

“Examples of some current trends that sent our videos viral videos are: The Butterfly Haircut, The Scandi Hairline, and The Double Glaze Colour.”

5. GIVE A LITTLE MAGIC WITH EACH CAPTION

“Everything we do on our social platforms is to build a community. Communities need love, they need insight and information and they want to know what they need!”

“So whether it’s a product recommendation for dry winter scalps, the hottest colour trend about to drop for summer, or a tip for how they can style their own bangs at home… include a little magic in your caption and a little education for your clients so they feel loved and like they have something they can gain from you. This will keep them coming back for more, as they trust your voice!”
