SOLANGE TAKES THE CHOP. FABER-CASTELL PENCIL, ANYONE?

A Journal music and fashion icon, Solange debuts a new “coral reef” hair transformation courtesy of trusted hair stylist Chuck Amos.

Long time lover of the long brunette, Solange’s recent trade for platinum blonde at New York Fashion Week delivered new light to those trademark Afro curls; twisted into the tightest braids for serious street-style cred.

“Since it’s more of a hair lightening process and not a direct colour application, there is no need to worry about fading or having to use colour safe products. With lightened hair, you have to maintain the brassiness of the colour with toners and silver rinses to keep the colour at a nice appealing light blonde colour,” Chuck told W Magazine.

Now, the lyrical genius’ super crop travels her look to new extremes, and naturally (or not so much), she’s ruling it with rock star aplomb. First prepping with all the right, nourishing products, Chuck divulges his natural, fro-ready hair techniques. Pencil case, anyone?

“After moistening her hair from the core, I wrapped small sections of Solange’s natural curls around a pencil to distort her natural curl to create an artistic shape to them. After that, I used a diffuser, switching from medium to hot, and then cool when fully dried,” Chuck continued to W magazine.

“I then separated her curls and with a cold blow dryer blew her hair in a circular motion around her head to lift her curls from the root to create a “coral reef” effect to her hair.”

We’re down.
