Three of this year’s Star Spot winners had the experience of their careers working with multi-award winner, session stylist, salon owner and former FAME Team coach, Carole Haddad at the annual fashion parades at the Royal National Show (the Ekka) in Brisbane earlier this month.
Kelly Reeves of DNA Hairdressing, Ashburton, New Zealand, Chloe Schaufler of LC Hair, Raymond Terrace (NSW) and Jacky Quon of Smitten Hairdressing (ACT) teamed up to provide backstage support to Corcorz Hair for the Ekka’s famous Natural Fibres parades.
Once the Star Spot team completed their Ekka stint each day at 2pm, the hairdressers then headed to Corcorz Hair at Southbank for special training and even their own makeovers. They learnt about Carole’s cutting and colour correction techniques, sat in on a photo shoot for fashion label Maiocchi and brushed up on consultation techniques at Dario Cotroneo’s education seminar for the Australian Hairdressing Council.
Jacky Quon from Smitten Hairdressing in the ACT said that the best advice she learned during her Star Spot Opportunity was that you have to back yourself! “Carole channels all her energy, passion and soul into her amazing art; and it became infectious,” Jacky said.
Kelly Reeves travelled all the way from New Zealand for the experience and said that she “learnt so much from Carole I don’t even know where to start.” She said that working at the Ekka parades was an experience on its own, getting to experience first-hand working alongside models and makeup artists was great, as well as gaining great friendships along the way.
Chloe Schaufler of LC Hair in Raymond Terrace (NSW) said that she enjoyed the whole experience and her time meeting and also learning from her fellow winners, Jacky and Kelly. “It was great to meet Carole, someone in the industry who is not afraid to be different,” Chloe said.
