HAIR REPORT:RALPH LAUREN

Redken Global Styling Director Guido Palau created two beautiful looks this season for Ralph Lauren, in that the designer previewed his Polo line prior to showing his ready-to-wear collection. The downtown hairstyle of the Polo collection, created with Redken’s NEW blowdry category, was paired on the runway with a more traditional Ralph Lauren low ponytail. Regardless, both styles had a cohesive feel in that they were both easy and gorgeous.
“For the Ralph Lauren collection look, I used Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to give the hair a silky, luxurious finish. It was a classic Ralph Lauren ponytail that perfectly contrasted with the more natural, uninhibited style worn by the model for the Polo line.”

Redken Global Styling Director Guido washed the hair with Redken all soft shampoo in order to get a nice, clean texture to the hair. Natural parts and natural textures remained intact, as Guido finished off the truly effortless style with a bit of Redken pillow proof blowdry two day extender before tucking the hair into the clothing.
“As one has come to expect, the beauty backstage for Calvin Klein is very minimal. Apart from cleansing the hair with Redken all soft shampoo and adding a bit of Redken pillow proof blowdry two day extender for added texture, the hair was really left to its own devices. Once the girls are dressed, I will tuck the hair into collars and under accessories to finish the natural, yet rich look. This is the new rich!”

HAIR REPORT: ALBERTA FERRETTI

Redken Global Styling Director Guido Palauused Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to give the hair a soft and smooth texture prior to styling the hair. While Guido departed from natural hair for Alberta Ferretti, he did weave in elements of ease with the looseness of the ponytail. The style felt easy and romantic, especially since the loose ponytail allowed for small pieces to fall out around the face.
“The hairstyle for Alberta Ferretti is simple and romantic, which is consistent with the designer’s aesthetic. I used Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion and then did a blow dry using large round brushes to give the hair a clean and sophisticated finish. Once the hair was pulled back into a loose low ponytail, I pulled out small pieces around the face to soften the style. Flyaways, messy partings and loose pieces are all little nuances that make a hairstyle feel romantic.”

HAIR REPORT: BOTTEGA VENETA

Redken Global Styling Director Guido Palau used extensions to add a twist on a classic ponytail. Once the extensions were in place, Guido used Redkeniron shape 11 finishing thermal spray and a flat iron to achieve the blunt straight finish at Bottega Veneta.
The hair for Bottega Veneta is clean and sharp, which is a bit of a departure from previous seasons. In the past, the hairstyles were easier, softer and more natural. A sort of 90’s minimalism inspired me, so the hair is simple with blunt lines. Hair extensions were used to create a very long fake ponytail that resembles the same thickness and consistency of a horse’s tail. There is certainly an intended element of artificiality to the hair.”

Redken Global Styling Director Guido Palau left each models individual hair type and length au naturale in order to create an effortless quality to overall style. On dry hair, Guido applied Redken shine flash 02 glistening mist as a texturiser to not only increase shine, but weight as well. Consequently, the style wasn’t too romantic or sophisticated, but rather undone and cool.
“I created a very simple style for Christopher Kane that uses natural textures and shine to convey an ease to the hair. Young designers tend to request undone hair in order to give the overall style an effortless quality. It is important to not force a look, so I don’t over bake an idea. If the designer wants ease, then the hairstyle is consequently a natural look with a few subtle tweaks. In this case, shine was incorporated into natural, soft hair.”
