There’s few runways that spark excitement in the hearts of sartorialist’s everywhere like New York Fashion Week.
The first of four weeks comprising Fashion Month (alongside London, Milan and Paris), NYFW is our very first indication of what to expect in terms of hair, beauty and fashion trends across the four events.
We recently caught up with the talented Aimee Egan, who spent NYFW back of house making magic for the runway across a number of eagerly anticipated shows. Here, she lets us in on her NYFW highlights, favourite looks, and what’s next for 2025.
TJ: What shows did you work on for NYFW?
AE: I had the pleasure of working on several exciting shows and shoots. I worked on Christian Cowan, Song Juan Wan, We Wear Australia, and also had the chance to do Mariam Seddiq’s next campaign shoot.
TJ: Can you unpack the looks created for each show?
AE: For Christian Cowan’s show, the vibe was so fun and electric. We used two synthetic wigs, styled with padding, stacked on top of each other to create this exaggerated, flicked-up look. The models were so playful, bouncing down the runway!
Song Juan Wan’s show was sleek and sophisticated, with hair pulled back into a bow-like bun. It was simple yet stunning, really complementing the runway looks.
For the We Wear Australia campaign, we brought Australian beach textures to the streets of New York. Collaborating with CPR Hair, we captured that effortlessly lived-in, flowy, and beautiful hair vibe – perfect for the Aussie brand meeting NYC.
Mariam Seddiq’s campaign had a similar ‘Australian meets New York’ feel, but the look was more polished with sleek texture through the mids and ends, really showcasing her incredible fashion.
TJ: What was your favorite look to create?
AE: Honestly, I loved every moment of NYFW. Each experience was so valuable, but if I had to choose, it would definitely be the Christian Cowan look. The sheer fun of the show made it stand out. It was just so lively and creative!
TJ: Can you describe any key techniques or backstage hacks?
AE: Backstage, it’s all about teamwork. You have to leave your ego at the door. Whether it’s passing pins or finishing a look, every role is vital in bringing the vision to life. Also, never stand still! Always be moving and ready to pitch in wherever needed.”
TJ: NYFW is one of the most prestigious fashion events of the year. What was the energy like backstage?
AE: It was absolutely incredible – so inspiring! There’s such a high level of talent and creativity in every single person behind the scenes. Everyone is giving their all to make the show happen. It’s the kind of environment that makes you want to push harder and get the most out of your career.
TJ: Any ‘pinch me’ moments?
AE: The whole experience felt like a dream! From working backstage at NYFW to shooting two campaigns in the city, it’s still surreal. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.
TJ: What can we expect to see from you in 2025?
AE: I’m super excited for the future! I’ve just joined Beautick and will be heading to Milan in November for more fashion week training. This will open the door for me to work at major fashion weeks around the world. I’ll also continue my ambassadorship with CPR Hair and be ready to seize every opportunity this career has to offer.
