NEWS: BUSINESS GRANTS PROVIDE AAFW DESIGNERS WITH FUNDING UP TO $250,000

Securing coverage of AAFW under the Business Grants program is another way we are working to ensure that our event continues to be accessible for designers, whose businesses have been greatly impacted by the pandemic.

IMG today announced that Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) will be covered under the Australian Government’s Business Events Grants program, supporting Australian businesses with grants between $10,000 and $250,000. Grant funding will cover up to 50% of eligible expenditures incurred by participating designers.

The fashion industry has no doubt been affected by the economical impact of COVID-19 making the financial boost a welcome help as brands decide on their level of participation in 2021. It’s no secret that the investment to show across the week is significant for Australian fashion brands, often putting the pressure on aligning sponsors (hello hair brands!) for ample resources across the highest production possible. Will this mean a more approachable outlay for hair sponsors in 2021? Not sure – but something to consider when in negotiations, absolutely.

Established by the Australian Government, the Business Events Grants program is funded under the $1 billion COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund. Through IMG’s to secure part of this in support for the Australian fashion industry, eligible businesses can now apply for AAFW related funding. Think runway production costs, digital content and trade showrooms, travel and accommodation expenses for media and buyers and so on.

“IMG is dedicated to supporting Australian designers and the broader fashion industry through AAFW,” said Executive Director of IMG’s fashion events group, Asia Pacific region, Natalie Xenita.

“Securing coverage of AAFW under the Business Grants program is another way we are working to ensure that our event continues to be accessible for designers, whose businesses have been greatly impacted by the pandemic.”

In addition to this, welcoming Australian Fashion Week back to the calendar gives the hair and beauty a little something to look forward to – a chance for emerging artists to learn and understand, for established stylists to flex what they do best, push the envelope and really represent the benefits of hairdressing.

AAFW will take place May 31st – June 4th at Carriageworks, Sydney.
