Myer Spring/Summer ’15 Fashion Launch with Hair by Kevin Murphy

Global hair editorial guru, Kevin Murphy, has once again directed the hair for the Myer SS15 Fashion Launch Parade. Last night’s much-anticipated event was held at Carriageworks in Sydney, showcasing the latest looks in fashion, hair and make-up to a VIP audience. The Journal was lucky enough to go backstage and witness all of the hair looks being created, as well as get an exclusive interview with Kevin Murphy himself.

The parade featured the Face of Myer, Jennifer Hawkins and Myer Ambassadors Kris Smith and Kate Peck, as well as Australian supermodel Nicole Trunfio making an exclusive runway appearance for Little Joe Woman by Gail Elliot. More than 270 new season looks by Myer’s stable of leading Australian and International designers were showcased. Kate Peck debuted a new hairdo, a pastel peach shade to complement her pixie crop while Jennifer Hawkins opted for pastel pink dip-dyed hair.

Hair Director Kevin Murphy says the hair look this season was inspired by water and the ocean, and the models themselves were styled to emulate the colourful and feminine look of mermaids: “We wanted the look to be whimsical and romantic. Soft pastels and colour is really the trend of the season, but we wanted the look to be classic still, so the style of the hair has notes of the 1940s,” said Murphy. The hair look saw pops of candy pinks and purples, baby blue and mint green with some sparkle thrown into the mix, amplifying the depth of colour in the SS15 Collection, which was shot for Myer in Fiji.

Rather than complement the bright and colourful fashion of the season, Kevin Murphy’s vision aimed to contrast and clash with the colours of the fashion collections, which this season are all about shape, print and loose silhouettes
