For the second consecutive year, Kao Group – owner of Goldwell, Oribe, KMS and Varis brands – have been included within leading international non profit organisation CDP’s A List for their incredible sustainability initiatives. 

With the importance of protecting our fragile climate more prevalent than ever, receiving the highest triple-A score for its sustainability initiatives involving climate change, forests and water security is no mean feat for Kao Group. 12,000 firms were evaluated for positions on the coveted ‘A List’, with only 14 selected for inclusion across the three categories.

No strangers to the A List, Kao has now been included within the Climate Change ‘A List’ for the third time, the Forests ‘A List’ for the second time, and the Water Security ‘A List’ for the fifth time.

Working in unison with their salon partners, Kao has made the following commitments to ESG with the following steps forward in their pledge to the environment.

WATER REDUCTION – In 2016 Kao Salon Division decreased its water waste by 12% Its quality is close to that of drinking water.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCING – Since 2017, all paper used for communication and material-related packaging components comes from certified sustainable sources.

FORMULATIONS – in 2012, Kao Salon Division introduced Nectaya, a permanent hair color with up to 91% ingredients of natural origin and in 2020 KMS MOISTUREPAIR Hydrating Oil Spray with 99% ingredients of natural origin.

RECYCLING – Most of our packaging is already recyclable today.  Tomorrow’s target is to make them all recyclable.

CO2 REDUCTION – Our main production facilities have been powered by  100% sustainable, climate-neutral energy since  2014.

MATERIAL REDUCTION – Goldwell’s innovative Topchic can cap design contains 38% less plastic, helping us to save more than 11 metric tons per year.
