INSPO: THE TOP HAIR TRENDS TAKING OVER INSTAGRAM

From candy hues and sock-styling to e-girl bangs and everything in between. These are the top hair trends taking over our social feeds. Get on it.

E-GIRL BANGS

Popularised by Dua Lipa (and TikTok respectively) the e-girl trend heroes chunky streaks (typically in the fringe region) favouring stark contrasts over subtle blends. A favourite among social media influencers, e-girl bangs come in saccharine pastels, pops of bright colour and neon hues (à la billie eilish).

CANDY STRANDS

One of the *sweetest* trends to emerge out of lockdown? This modern take on a classic favourite: the hard candy swirl. A look that contrasts stark hues – and a high-shine exterior – this graphic trend is both a sweet lovers’ and editorial hairstylist’s dream…

HEATLESS WAVES

PSA: Sock styling is a thing. Just ask influencer extraordinaire Justine Marjan, who fashioned these lazy-girl waves using only one pair of a socks. We kid you not. While no substitute for a good tong or bouncy blow-dry, we love watching hairdressers find new and creative ways to style hair.

PEEK-A-BOO COLOUR

It’s colour… with a twist. Known in the biz as ‘under-lighting’, this trend is perfect for under-cover colour lovers, corporate clients or those simply looking to experiment with a new shade or hue. From jewel tones to pastels: peek-a-boo strands look here to stay.

DOUBLE BANGS

Much like the popular curtain-bang trend, this look takes its sartorial cues from the 70s. Wispier then your classic bang, this look is undone and uber wearable; beautifully translating across the worlds of salon and session styling. We love this timeless iteration by the ever-on-trend Keiren Street.

VIVID MELTS

A look that needs no introduction. Having gained widespread client traction over the past few years, the vivid colour trend shows no signs of slowing down. It’s latest incarnation? Seamless colour melts in an array of rainbow hues. We’re a little obsessed with this mermaid-esque creation by Chelsea R.

DUAL TONES

Much like e-girl bangs, this trend is characterised by chunky streaks or panels – the majority of which contrast in hue or colour level. Not for the faint of heart (or head), this look is perfect for clients who want it all… but struggle to commit to one statement shade.

PASTEL ROOTS

Much like the shadow-root technique, this trend offers a subtle hint of colour without a mass transformation. Perfect for clients who err a little on the lighter side, the key to this trend is subtlety (and a steady hand!). Take this dreamy turquoise fade by the team at Boho Blonde for example.

NATURAL TEXTURE

While not a season exclusive *trend*, we just LOVE watching stylists, clients and influencers rocking their natural textures; celebrating curls, waves and free-flowing strands of all persuasions. While we’ll never be done with hot irons and tongs… it’s refreshing to see diversity populating our social feeds.
