Val Garland is the ‘make-up artists’ make-up artist’, a doyen of the fashion world. After 25 years in the business, she is revered in her world for her spontaneous creativity and her innovative technique. The awe that she is held in has garnered many epithets, including ‘The Alchemist’ and ‘The Queen of Brushes’. She first rose to prominence in the maelstrom that was the London fashion scene of the mid 1990’s. Her stylish outrageousness meant that she fell in with a like-minded crowd, a coterie of soon to be legendary movers and shakers including the young Alexander McQueen, stylists Katie England, Katie Grand and Jane How.

The furore and excitement that surrounded the early McQueen shows ensured that Garland was soon the make-up artist of choice for the new generation of designers and photographers including Mert and Marcus, Nick Knight and Steven Klein, among others. The list of those that Val has worked with reads like a roll call of fashion’s most influential names; a veritable ‘who’s who’ of the industry;

Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Alber Albaz, Giambattista Valli, Rick Owens, Alexander Wang, Vivienne Westwood, Mary Katranzou, Roland Mouret, Erdem, Peter Pilotto, Jeremy Scott, Herve Leger, BCBG, DSquared2, Tods, Philip Treacy, Sacai, Mulger and Moschino.

She has also contributed to some of fashion’s iconic campaigns for brands such as;
