FASHION: HEADLINE EVENT ANNOUNCED FOR MBFWA RESORT ’21

Exciting news. Fashion magnates IMG have this week announced their 2020 event headliner and first-look talent list for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

Scheduled for 11-15th May 2020, inside Eveleigh’s iconic Carriageworks precinct and select offsite locations, MBFWA will welcome over 25,000 global visitors to Sydney over the course of five days, as a line-up of emerging and established Australian design talent present their Resort 2021 collections to media, buyers, and (for the first time) consumers.

In celebration of the event’s monumental quarter-century anniversary, this year’s proceedings will kick off with an exclusive Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion showcase on Monday 11th May, with a consumer-focused, encore-presentation to take place shortly thereafter.

The news comes fresh off the announcement of MBFWA’s revamped format – namely the decision to incorporate a consumer-specific offering as part of the event’s official schedule; bringing tailored experiences for industry professionals and the broader fashion-loving public together (for the first time) via one integrated program.

Alongside a roster of industry showings and presentations (stay tuned for the full schedule in upcoming months), MBFWA: The Experience will offer consumers never-before-seen access to various evening shows, welcoming paid guests to experience select designer runways, seminars and special events across the event’s week-long course.

Thus far, it’s been revealed that industry favourites Tigerlily (who mad their return to the MBFWA arena last year) and Ginger & Smart will present their collections on Tuesday and Wednesday evening respectively, while King of Bridal-wear Steven Khalil will stage the event’s closing show on Friday May 15th.

“We are excited to commemorate this monumental occasion with a spectacular tribute to the Australian fashion industry at MBFWA’s marquee event, Mercedes-Benz Presents, with a show that will celebrate the past, present and future of Australian fashion,” shared Natalie Xenita, Executive Director of IMG’s fashion events group, Asia-Pacific region.

Echoing Natalie’s sentiments, Creative Director Tony Assness added, “I am super excited to be directing this landmark show – it is a moment to celebrate what has been and what is emerging – to present a deeper understanding of what Australian fashion is.

Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion will take the essence of Australian fashion design and amplify it in the most powerful way, thrilling everyone who sees it. Our designers, models, artisans, manufacturers and the thousands of others who work in this industry deserve nothing less.”
