A creative diary insight to the much anticipated FAME Team Mentor Week.

It’s the kick-off week we know and love for our annual FAMER’S, and 2022’s Mentor Week did not disappoint with unfettered colour exploration, cutting precision and styling experimentation on tap. Of course, M DIVISION creative and hair-powerhouse, Lauren McCowan was on-hand throughout the week; joining other hair pioneers in successfully broadening the minds of this years’ Salona Cilia Leigh Winsor, Maddy Robinson and Matthew Ashton.

As always, a big thank you to our sponsors of whom this program would be impossible without: JOICO, Dyson, Hanzo and Redken.

Here, FAME Team Creative Director, Jack Morton shares a dairy on the week that was …

Day 1 saw the team touch down in Sydney with their Kofer styling bags in tow! Each member received their incredibly generous kit from our scissor sponsor Hanzo and hit the ground running with a ‘get to know you’ session and cutting masterclass with the award winning and good-vibes captain Jules Tognini.

DAY 2 was all about colour with the morning session dedicated to trend analysis, image anatomy and the creation of unique colour techniques. From here, the afternoon welcomed colour sponsor, JOICO to the stage; their bright ambassador, Carolyn Jayun leading an introductory session to the unlimited possibilities of the brand. Finally, a trip to Académie Salon where former NSW Hairdresser of the Year and master colour curator, Richie Grisillo allowed the team into his creative process with a focus on the importance of ‘creative play,’ as backed by a hands-on colour workshop.

On DAY 3 we visited hair tool sponsor, Dyson’s HQ where the team were exposed to the brand’s DNA with a strong message on the power of experimentation. Next up, a social media masterclass with Instagram expert and Dyson ambassador, Renya Xydis followed by a VIP preview of her iconic ‘Supermodel Hair’ as powered by the Dyson Airwrap.

Was all about styling product sponsors, Redken with an introduction to the formidable portfolio relied on worldwide by our industry’s strongest runway stylists. The afternoon rolled out the carpet for Lauren McCowan, who shared her wealth of knowledge with a styling 101 workshop.

Day 5 was the pinnacle of FAME team mentor week, concluding with an epic, Salvador Dali-inspire shoot for THE JOURNAL. An opportunity to put every new skill, tool and perspective into play, the team helped bring to life a surreal vision led by Lauren King, Lauren McCowan and captured by David Mannah. The result, a brilliantly executed work of team and artistry. Keep an eye out for the end result in our upcoming September issue!
