Set to take place in the historic town of Launceston, the eclectic celebration of creativity that is MONA FOMA returns in 2019 with the usual mind wobbling line-up.
Leading the pack of dynamic performers is Swedish singer-songwriter slash rap queen, Neneh Cherry and Welsh electronic duo Underworld with Australian singer-songwriter darling Courtney Barnett (once a resident of Tasmania), returning to perform a specially curated set.
Co-founder and curator Brian Ritchie is especially stoked to present American composer/producer Oneohtrix Point Never aka Brooklyn-based electronic musician Daniel Lopatin. Delivering an innovative collision of music, theatre and art presented in a four-part performance titled Myriad.
Not to be outdone, the festival’s visual-art line-up ensures your curiosities will peak. Launceston’s own Amanda Parer presents her modern-day reimagining of Rodin’s monumental sculpture The Thinker, while artists Heath Franco, Rosie Deacon and Lou Conboy explore the emotional landscape of suburban Australia through works presented at the Launceston Workers Club – soon to be renamed MOFO HQ.
Mona Foma runs from 13 – 20 January; check out the festival’s website for all the details.
