EVENTS: L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY 2019

It’s one of the longest running live hair competitions in the world – and this year’s offering looks set to be bigger, better and more colourful than ever. With less than one month to go until Colour Trophy’s national finale, L’Oréal Professionnel have revealed the evening’s formal agenda… and boy is it a good one.

Heroing continued innovation in the realm of hair colouring, L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy showcases best in hairdressing talent; honouring aspirational artistry, colour mastery and creative vision both locally and abroad. Scheduled for Monday 25thFebruary at Melbourne’s The Palms at Crown, Colour Trophy’s Australian Grand Finale will bring together 15 Finalists and 5 Rising Stars from across the nation, for a mass celebration of hair, fashion, and inspired creativity.

Commencing with a state wide tour of Australia, Colour Trophy’s 2018/19 local offering saw semi-finalists flock to their designated states, for a series of regional Final Events, before which 3 Finalists and 1 Rising Star were chosen to represent each respective region. Judges for 2019 included a cross section of experts from across the industry, namelyMarie Uva, Brodie-Lee Tsiknaris, Freda Rossidis, Sheree Knobel, Justin Pace, Frank Apostolopoulos, Matt Clements and beauty experts from Marie Claire Magazine.

This year’s Grand Finale will see finalists return to Melbourne, to present their looks before a panel of industry authorities. Each finalist will be given four hours to recreate their qualifying look, before which they will be blind-judged by a panel of National and International judges. Each of the final looks will then be scored for technical mastery, overall look and the finalist’s ability to showcase current trends with originality, whilst keeping consumer wearability at heart.

This year’s National Winner, Runners Up and Rising Star will share in a combined prize pool worth over $340,000, with the 2019 National Winner securing a trip and admission to an international L’Oréal event. The National Winner for 2019 also have their winning image featured on the front cover of Marie Claire’s Hair Trends magazine. (Check out all of the contenders for 2019 here).

Outside of the day’s judging component, the event will welcome a host of special guests for a jampacked evening of dazzling proportions. Hosted by comedian and radio personality Tommy Little, this year’s soiree will take place inside The Palms at Crown, and will feature both high octane performances and dynamic runway displays. 2019’s musical act is none other than Australian recording royals, Bachelor Girl; a band who no doubt epitomised the musical climate of the late 90’s and early noughties with such hits as ‘Buses and Trains’.

Headlining this year’s presentation roster is acclaimed international Hair Artist Sophia Hilton; whose earnt a cult following for her passionate approach to educating and mastery of hair colour. Undoubtedly an industry stalwart, Hilton is the owner and Director of hip East London site Brick Lane Salon. She also brings a wealth of editorial knowledge, having most recently been featured in fashion bible VOGUE. Hilton will bring her vision, skill and colour mastery to life in an era-defining ‘riot of colour’ that will push the boundaries of creativity.

Rounding off the evening’s festivities will be this year’s Matador performance; touted as a fiery fusion of burlesque, dance and astonishing circus acts. Comprised of 14 talented performers, Matador will feature non-stop entertainment from its outset, culminating high energy commercial dance pieces, emotionally charged contemporary and ballet acts and sweltering Latin numbers.
