An epic return to the global runway for ALÉMAIS, with Hair Direction from Paloma Rose Garcia for KEVIN.MURPHY.
On the atmospheric island setting of Illa del Rei, Australian label ALÉMAIS has unveiled its Resort 2027 collection, marking its second destination runway presentation and a confident return to the international stage. The show presented 45 looks and arrives amid a landmark year for the brand, following co-founder and creative director Lesleigh Jermanus’ recent induction into the BoF 500.

Set against Menorca’s raw coastal landscape, the collection is shaped by intuition, memory and material exploration. Jermanus traces its beginnings to a design journey earlier this year in Barcelona, where Catalan architecture and artistic symbolism informed the evolving creative direction.
“We began back in January on a design trip in Barcelona,” Jermanus explains. “The spirit of Catalan architecture and art seemed to shape the essence of the city itself. I found myself immersed in a world of imagination, symbolism and devotion to craft that reminded me creativity is its own form of alchemy.”

Hair direction for the show was led by KEVIN.MURPHY Hair Director Paloma Garcia, who worked with each model’s natural texture to enhance rather than transform. Hair was softly drawn into knotted ponytails with an organic, windswept finish, echoing the collection’s elemental sensibility. Delicate seashell trinkets were woven throughout the styles, reinforcing the collection’s raw femininity and coastal references.
Key KEVIN.MURPHY products used backstage included UN.TANGLED, KILLER.TWIRLS, DOO.OVER, POWDER.PUFF, SESSION.SPRAY and YOUNG.AGAIN, supporting texture, movement and lived-in separation throughout the looks.

Continuing its commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, ALÉMAIS introduces Mallorca-based multidisciplinary artist Sophie Wahlquist this season. Her sculptural ceramic practice becomes a conceptual anchor for the collection, with garments echoing the language of vessels, curves and containment. The result is a dialogue between object and garment, ceramic and cloth.
Ceramics are reinterpreted through exaggerated proportions and protective silhouettes, while layered organza, textured weaves and fluid draping translate Wahlquist’s work into textile form. Fabric is twisted, folded and hand-manipulated, reinforcing ALÉMAIS’ ongoing runway exploration of materiality.

Natural processes also play a defining role, with salt-dyeing and UV exposure techniques allowing garments to appear shaped by sea, light and time. Embellishments – stones captured in macramé, suspended trinkets and artisanal charms – further evoke the feeling of collected artefacts gathered through travel.
A soft but powerful “mother energy” runs throughout the collection. Lacework references inherited feminine craft traditions, while hand-painted checks ripple like light across water. Technical detailing introduces tension and movement, with eyelets, knots, ropes and rings enabling garments to expand and contract with the body and wind.
In summary? The ALÉMAIS Resort 2027 Collection truly was the ultimate expression of Australian talent, as seen on the world stage.
