AFW 24: THE REDKEN WRAP

Synonymous with fashion and cutting edge trends across the globe, Redken was back on board as Official Hair Partner for Australian Fashion Week (Presented by Pandora) in 2024.
With an epic team of all-star Hair Directors on hand to make magic happen (both on the runway and back of house) across the week, the stakes were officially raised in terms of creativity and variety with an unprecedented number of (quite literally) hair-raising moment gracing the runways of AFW24.

Here, we round up our favourite Redken-led hair moments from the whirlwind week that was.

IORDANES SPYRIDON GOGOS

HAIR DIRECTOR: RICHARD KAVANAGH

Hair Director Richard Kavanagh for Redken’s larger-than-life collaboration with Iordanes Spyridon Gogos for the second consecutive year took creativity to the next level and hair to new heights. From palm tree ponytails to hair scuplted as trojan horses, the looks dreamt up transcended mere hairstyling – instead entering the realm of avant-garde artistry.

VERNER

HAIR DIRECTOR: DIANE GORGIEVSKI

It was true-blue with cool factor at Verner’s Resort 24/25 collectiom, Redken Hair Director Diane Gorgievski channelling hometown Bondi vibes across a series of coastal-inspired textures.

“Today is about creating beach culture – a real celebration of our coastal towns,” explained Diane of the perfectly tousled tresses accompanying the effortlessly cool girl Verner aesthetic.

NICOL & FORD

HAIR DIRECTOR: RICHARD KAVANAGH

In true Richard Kavanagh style, looks crafted for Nicol & Ford transcended mere hair and entered the world of sculptured art. Think bondage tape wrapped plaits, gravity defying updos and a healthy dose of artistic attitude.

“This show is really dear to my heart because it’s really embracing a narrative about freedom and power and strength of identity,” says Richard. “We’ve really referenced the idea of emerging from the fire with strength and power and we’re working with motifs like snatched ponytails.”

madre natura

HAIR DIRECTOR: JUSTIN PACE

The hair was bigger, fluffier and the final word in low-key luxe, with Justin Pace’s hair direction a stunning juxtaposition against the madre natura collection.

Justin’s hero product back of house? Redken’s HEROPRODUCT22 Thermal Hairspray.

NEXT GEN

HAIR DIRECTOR: JACKY CHAN FOR OSCAR OSCAR

The challenge for Redken Hair Director Jacky Chan as he led the Oscar Oscar group for the eagerly anticipated Next Gen showing? Finding a style that worked cohesively across all four labels, whilst still complimenting the vibe of each.

Said Jacky backstage, “Today we created a textured look for all four designers presenting as part of the Next Gen show, but styled them slightly differently to compliment each brand.”

David Jones Indigenous Fashion Project

HAIR DIRECTOR: KRISTY HODGSON

Inspired by the indigenous Dreamtime story Water Lubra, models were made to look as though they had stepped out of the water and onto the runway with wet look locks made possible with Redken’s Argan-6 and Root Lifter to emb race the natural texture of each model’s hair.

WACKIE JU

HAIR DIRECTOR: RICHARD KAVANAGH

In a word? Drama.
Hair Director Richard Kavanagh and the Redken team spent days preparing a series of jaw-dropping looks, with locks taken to new lengths and floor-trailing braids highlights – or hairlights – of the true testament to hair artistry.
