AFW 24: DAY 4 HIGHLIGHTS

Day 4 saw fashion take the entirety of Sydney by storm. Embellished wet looks were presented under the sea at Speed, Mariam Seddiq took rock’n’roll grunge to a level of elegance and Iordanes Spyridon Gogos reimagined (once again) the realm of possibility on the runway.

DAVROE X MARIAM SEDDIQ

It was third time’s a charm for the infallible hair-fashion partnership that has marked Mariam Seddiq AFW’s most sort after seat.

“This year we’ve gone left of centre. We always try and push the boundaries, but this is unexpected with all 20 models wearing identical wigs,” starts Davroe Ambassador, Madison Voloshin.

“We spent multiple days pre-cutting and are now further personalising each wig to suit its allocated face shape.”

Titled Chroma, the collection was a fresh take on the Seddiq DNA with an all-black palette and racy cut-out combinations. Less fabric more ferocity.

“I interpreted the Chroma brief as a green light to bring in a bit of punk, some goth, a little bit of street and a good serve of grit. The girls are going to have black hands, bleached brows and silver fingers, so in my head, the best way to work with that was to bring in short, choppy fringes and something bold, dark and powerful,” said Madison.

But first, the wig wrap.

“For wig prep, we’re flattening the hair down using Davroe’s Body, Volume Texture. As with all Davroe formulations, this is a multi-way that both builds and flattens the hair. It has a light hold but is incredibly easy to wash out (versus sending the girls home filled with gel).”

“When it comes to wig wrapping, the fundamental thing is just being neat. If you’ve got clean sections and you’re working with a good amount of product, nothing should go wrong.”

Really driving the Chroma code home was a hit of shine courtesy of go-to editorial combination, Davroe Complete and Ultimatum Hairsprays.

The hottest ticket in town.

REDKEN X IORDANES SPYRIDON GOGOS

Hair Director Richard Kavanagh for Redken’s larger-than-life collaboration with Iordanes Spyridon Gogos for the second consecutive year took creativity to the next level and hair to new heights.

“We’ve got palm trees out of the hair,” describes Richard. “We’ve got bowl cuts and jellyfish. We’ve got hair cubes floating with negative space. We’ve even got Terry the art collector who has to walk down the runway with a 3 foot mohawk on his head, so in order to create hair shapes like this, we needed a really strong hold hairspray so my hero product has been our Max Hold Hairspray 32 factor.”

WELLA PROFESSIONALS X SPEED

With Sydney Aquarium serving as backdrop, Wella Professional’s Creative Director Renya Xydis looked to embellished wet looks and French Rolls to accompany Speed’s ‘Electric Sun’ collection.

Says Renya of the collection, “I was so inspired by the beauty of rebirth, we’ve curated intricate hair looks showcasing web-like, bejewelled and wet hair
creations using Wella Professionals, to signify the solar evolution as represented in Alvi Chung’s collection.”

VERNER X REDKEN

It was true-blue with cool factor at Verner Resort 24/25 this week, Redken Hair Director
Diane Gorgievski channelling hometown Bondi vibes across a series of coastal-inspired
textures.
“Today is about creating beach culture – a real celebration of our coastal towns,” started Di.

“With natural-feeling hair it’s always about the prep. I start with clean, fresh hair, and I always use my hands. A lot of the time brushing and combing really disturbs that natural
wave, so I break down the disulphide bonds with One United, then layer on conditioning
creams to surface a suitable level of wave.”

Fluid, effortless and raw. John Pulitano’s pinned back and individualised editorial looks were the perfect compliment to Blanca’s collection.

“We wanted to compliment the collection itself which is very chic, sheer and soft,” begins John. There’s a bit of embellishment to the garments, so we’ve gone for an ‘invisible pinned back look’ with the hair, keeping it simple and contour free.”

“It’s very natural, with enhanced textures and rawness. The Blanca girl is chic, cool and understated and the hair really shows that.”
