AFW 24: DAY 2 HIGHLIGHTS

Beare Park brought forth simplistic elegance. Michael Lo Sordo delivered unbridled energy through Le Club Lo Sordo. Mastani made us feel young again. Here’s what you missed from Day 2 of AFW 24.

DAVROE X BEARE PARK

Beare Park delivered a soft yet opulent show at the Gallery of NSW yesterday, making Aussie leader in natural, refined hair formulations, Davroe, the perfect creative partner.

Garments expressed liberty with sheer, fluid fabrications and an element of soft tailoring in neutral, metallic finishes. The brief was met with an organic hair shape that sat long and loose to the body.

“We’ve created a long, relaxed pony with natural texture and a glossy finish … but not too high shine,” started Davroe Hair Director, Madison Voloshin.

“It’s been designed so these light, face framing tendrils move when the girls walk, giving the illusion of floating alongside them.”

The look was prepped with Davroe Tame Detangler and finished with the brand’s iconic Ends Repair.

“Ends Repair has this beautiful glassy capability, but the hair just soaks it up, so you can never make it too oily or shiny. No matter how heavy handed you are with this product, you can always expect a beautiful natural gloss that completely hydrates the hair.”

“I guess the inspiration for this is more of a gentle hairdo. It’s simple … nothing too complex or unachievable at home. But at the same time, the finish is elevated courtesy of Davroe – the products lift it up to a more luxurious level.”

O&M X BEC + BRIDGE

Held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, the Bec + Bridge Resort 24/25 show used Sydney Harbour as its stage for a sharp shift into metallics and oversized Y2K-style denim that felt undeniably ‘cool.’

King of luxe-meets-effortless, O&M Ambassador, John Pulitano led the charge across hair design crossing soft femininity with a modern edge.

“The look today is very effortless. The girls (Bec Cooper and Bridget Yorston) are leaning into metallics with beautiful structure, so we’re offsetting this with a feeling of soft femininity tucked behind the ears,” started John.

Using the iconic O&M Atonic Thickening Spritz as a primer, John’s fundamental technique was a simple, directional blow-dry that was then secured underneath to ensure hair didn’t “fan out,” rather maintaining a straight silhouette complimentary to the designs.

“The centre part is intentionally skew-whiff, and for our girls with curls, we’re using O&M Style Guru to finish off and really bring out the luxe in their texture. The whole vibe is expensive but effortless … we don’t want the hair to feel too ‘product-y.’”

MASTANI X KEVIN.MURPHY

KEVIN.MURPHY Hair Director Alex Fuch’s sleek, chic and individually tailored looks were the perfect accompanyment for Mastani’s bold runway show.

“The creative inspiration really came from the designer, who wanted to bring back some memories from her childhood – which is where we saw tight ponytails and lots of braids feature heavily,” says Alex of the origins of Mastani’s hair looks featured.

“We decided to come up with two main looks – both the same ponytail base – one with a soft wave finish, and one with a traditional four strand box braid.”

As for key Kevin.Murphy product utilised in the creation of the looks? “YOUNG.AGAIN is such an amazing all rounder, so we can use it in wet hair and dry hair. We can use it for shine or heat protection, and it really ensures that extra smoothness.”

KMS X PE NATION

Real fashion and hair that moves with you, brought to life by the KMS team helmed by Hair Directors Ali Holmes and Piet Pantano.

“KMS always plays to an individual’s look and personal style. Pip Edwards’ wanted
matte hair that bounced and had air on the runway, so we dialled up the natural
texture of each model’s hair without weighing it down,” explained Ali of the hair direction. “For our 2nd Day Hair my heroes
were KMS HAIRPLAY Makeover Spray to dry the roots with KMS HAIRPLAY Dry Texture
Spray to set the hair”.

WELLA X EMMA MULHOLLAND ON HOLIDAY

Wella Hair Director Keiren Steet took the invited audience on the holiday of a lifetime, with hair inspired by Darryl Hannah’s iconic role.

“We had a few inspirations coming into play, but the key inspiration came from the iconic film Splash with Darryl Hannah. We were really after that contrast in textures, in which she looked like she had just come out of the water and yet it was dry – with a massive amount of sine.”

O&M X MICHAEL LO SORDO

Admit one to the all out elegant extravanganza that one would expect from a Michael Lo Sordo show, with hair direction from the one and only Pauline McCabe.

Explains Pauline of the looks created for Le Club Lo Sordo, “The hair is very light, with some movement to it. We used the O&M Project Sukuroi to create a shine in the hair, O&M W-Spray to create light hold, which also created a tousled texture on the shorter hair girls and the male models, giving that 3am in Paris allure.”
