AFW 24: DAY 1 HIGHLIGHTS

From tailored textures for each designer at Next Gen through to the sleek, chic elegance at Carla Zampatti, AFW certainly disappoint with many a jaw-dropping look marching down the runways scattered across Sydney.

Here, we round up our favourite hair moments from the whirlwind that was Day 1.

REDKEN X NEXT GEN

The challenge for Redken Hair Director Jacky Chan as he led the Oscar Oscar group for the eagerly anticipated Next Gen showing? Finding a style that worked cohesively across all four labels, whilst still complimenting the vibe of each.

Said Jacky backstage, “Today we created a textured look for all four designers presenting as part of the Next Gen show, but styled them slightly differently to compliment each brand.”

REDKEN X CARLA ZAMPATTI

It was all about ultra deep side parts and sleek, chic finishes for Carla Zampatti’s Opening Night Show – the final word in glamour dreamt up by Redken Hair Director Di Gorgievski for the label’s exciting return to the runway.

“For Carla, we’re showcasing elevated, sophisticated, sleek glamour,” says Di backstage ahead of curtain call. “We wanted to make the hair cohesive with the looks and accessories, and wanted it to have a luxe Italian feel – as though you were in Milan heading out for the night.”

Hero product for achieving this ultra-luxe take on Italian glam? “My must have for the look tonight was the 22 Thermal Spray. It really helps us to go in and mould the hair without having to wet the hair.”

KEVIN.MURPHY X RORY WILLIAM DOCHERTY

A true highlight from Day 1, Riley Williams Doherty’s Monday afternoon showcase seemed to attract every cool kid at Carriageworks – and the looks presented did not disappoint. It was all about effortless elegance and natural textures that highlighted the designs as opposed to overpowering.

“The hair is really beautiful for the 35-strong casting for Rory,” says Kevin Murphy Hair Director Paloma Rose. “There’s a lot of individuality to the hair, and we’ve really been working with each model’s individual cut or look – and there’s also a beautiful ponytail that we have as our second key look for today.”

“Kevin.Murphy’s Young.Again Treatment Oil was really beautiful through our model’s mid-lengths and ends, to really add that shine and nourishment. I’m also really loving Doo.Over for the texture, especially for the shorter haired models – and Easy.Rider is a must have.”

GOLDWELL X VIKTORIA & WOODS

The quiet luxury of Viktoria and Woods offsite showing was perfectly complimented with lightly gelled roots and perfectly polished waves, dreamt up by Goldwell Hair Director Shane Henning.

“We wanted to create hair that wasn’t too feminine or perfect,” says Shane of his Hair Direction for the showcase. “Sea Swept hair is little
edgy and lived in. The new Goldwell StyleSign Lagoom Jam was painted on to the hair
then raked through. With the lengths finished with my new go-to StyleSign Weightless
Shine Oil. In contrast the second look was a dry, matte finish enhancing the natural
texture of each model’s hair. We started with StyleSign Air-Dry BB Cream diffused into the
hair and set with StyleSign Dry Texture Spray”.

TRESEMME X ALBUS LUMEN

Gritty and grunge, with just the right amount of glossy shine. Think relaxed, undone and lived in as opposed to styled and structured.

“We wanted to enhance rather than mask hair and the TRESemmé Lamellar range
was perfect for this,” says Hair Director Travis Balke. “The Lamellar technology in the products will help the hair shine
from within as it’s packed with ceramides and amino acids – it’s like the vehicle for the ingredients to get into the hair.”
