MUSIC: WHAT SALONS ARE LISTENING TO NOW

Amerikana by The Stevenson Ranch Davidians is a high vibe at present – they have an epic fuzz going on!

Craig Smith, Fruition Hair

Music plays a powerful role in our lives. It surfaces old memories, feelings and thoughts, gets the creativity moving and the vibe on point. It can dictate our mood, productivity and how we connect with others. An essential component to the salon every minute of every day, music plays a huge hand in business, success and just life in general, really.

We quizzed a few of Australia’s top salon owners on the tunes currently setting the tone in their ever-prosperous salon environments, and even carved out a hybrid playlist for your listening pleasure.

Paloma Rose Garcia / Oscar Oscar

At the moment we’re enjoying Cigarettes after Coffee for chill morning vibes, Solange for those soulful vibes and then the Black Panther soundtrack for cool, more upbeat tracks.

Mikele Simone and Richi Grisillo / Academie Salon

A soulful-upbeat mix of Sade, Aaliyah, Client Liason and TLC keeps everyone happy.

Kobi Bokshish / Intershape Hair

At Intershape we’re playing a mix including Otis Redding, Ms. Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Alicia Keys, Massive Attack and a good measure of Eighties classics.

Craig Smith / Fruition Hair

Amerikana by The Stevenson Ranch Davidians is a high vibe at present – they have an epic fuzz going on! I have blended the three albums into a cool playlist so we’re having an SRD feast at present. Spotify still rules at the salon though … trying to keep staff and guests content with music is not easy.

Damien Rinaldo / Boris The Cuttery

We have been listening to The Police! I just woke up craving Sting’s voice last week … but it changes all the time.

Frank Apostolopoulos / BIBA, Gertrude Street

Kill Jay, JAY Z … Non stop.

Joey Scandizzo / Joey Scandizzo Salon

Jungle Giants!

Matt Clements / The Assembly Salon

Very difficult to name just a couple, but at the moment we’re all about Sour Soul by BADBADNOTGOOD and The Cure’s Seventeen Seconds.

Jamie Furlan / Xiang Hair

Xiang is loving The Parcels, Winston Surfshirt and The Goods.
