KEVIN.MURPHY STYLE MYER SS17 FASHION LAUNCH

For this year’s Spring Summer Fashion Launch, iconic Department Chain Myer hosted (not one but..) two exclusive events, across one day of fashion fueled fun. Thursday 17th August saw this season’s sartorial offerings showcased to an assortment of VIP guests, style insiders and fashion loyalists; amidst two stunning sea side settings.

Returning as Myer’s Official Hair Partner for 2017, hair care brand KEVIN.MURPHY would once again play a pivotal role in each show’s execution, with SESSION.MASTERS James Nicholson and Nathan Gorman curating a series of stunning hair looks for both the day and night events respectively. “I love that Myer embraces diversity,” said James, “this allows us to experiment with multiple looks.”

The day’s first event took place inside a palatial Coogee Residence, where guests were invited to view this season’s wares in a private, intimate setting. Hair for the show was polished and pretty, in keeping with the luxurious refinement of the garments.

“[Today we were going for] lustrous, aspirational hair; keeping in mind that the event is up close and personal. It’s an intimate environment; it [didn’t seem] appropriate to have overly done, overly embellished hair. We focused on hair preparation, lustre, polish and shine.”

Nathan Gorman added, “We’re trying to play to the ‘come as you are’ attitude that is really big in the fashion realm. Although we are doing Spring Summer, you can already see the diversity of [hair] lengths that are coming through; the silhouette has changed, and hairdressing has to really stay ahead of that change.”

“The only real uniformity we have with the looks is that the hair is really healthy, shiny and beautiful. There’s a difference in lengths, but we are keeping with the left hand side part; to do this, its about taking it from one corner of your eyebrow to the other.”

“We are encouraging the girls to use a hair cleanser rather than rinse,” continued James Nicholson, “so that we get clean hair, that’s not too squeaky clean. It’s natural lustre; you’re not taking everything away and then having to add too much back in. We prepped the hair with KEVIN.MURPHY LEAVE-IN.REPAIR, and blow-dry using one of our large rolling brushes; buffing and polishing with the bristles.”

“The high end element is the molding; using KEVIN.MURPHY SESSION.SPRAY from the cheekbones and up. [The top] is polished, but everything from the cheekbones down is left with natural movement; it will be hair that’s living, and that moves and bounces.”

Night celebrations took place at Bronte’s Surf Life Saving Club, with Myer’s Spring Social highlighting beauty and fashion trends from the 60’s through to the 90’s. Across three fashion moments, each decade was demonstrated by way of lively models, alongside an exciting backdrop of dancers.

“Our hair direction was influenced by hero fashion moments of the 60’s to 90’s. A common thread through these decades were the fringe; we added sexy, undone hair texture, thus our hairstyle evolved. KEVIN.MURPHY BEDROOM.HAIR was our hero product for the night show, the curl enhancing hairspray released the motion and texture of the ‘UnDone’ set, created with a medium tong.

“Parisian chic is the hair trend for spring/summer 17. Aspire for hair that has lustre, is clean and polished with clever and flattering bangs or layers. The key is to hero your cheekbones. For this look, think Lily Rose Depp or Vanessa Paradis.”
